Από τις 27 Σεπτεμβρίου έως τις 6 Οκτωβρίου, παρουσιάζεται στο Μουσείο Γουλανδρή Φυσικής Ιστορίας η ατομική έκθεση της Βασιλικής Κούκου με τίτλο «Leafscapes of the Unseen» σε επιμέλεια της Αγγελικής Μπάρα.

Στην αίθουσα περιοδικών εκθέσεων «Γαία» του Μουσείου θα φιλοξενηθεί ένας  εικαστικός κήπος γεμάτος μυστικά, μαγικά σύμβολα και υβρίδια.

Η Βασιλική Κούκου μέσα από την έκθεση «Leafscapes of the Unseen» παρουσιάζει μια διαλεκτική ανάμεσα στις αναμνήσεις, τα όνειρα και τις προσωπικές της σκέψεις για το πέρασμα του χρόνου και την αλληλεπίδραση του ανθρώπου με τη φύση, αναδεικνύοντας αόρατες συνδέσεις ανάμεσα στη φθορά και την αναγέννηση μέσα από ένα ευρύ φάσμα τεχνικών και υλικών.

Τα έργα της Κούκου χαρακτηρίζονται από την αστείρευτη ικανότητα της έκφρασης της φαντασίας, της λυρικής ποιότητας και της ανεξάντλητης δραματικής δύναμης που συγγενεύει με τους ρυθμούς της φύσης.

Η καλλιτέχνης δίνει νέα μορφή στα βαθύτερα στρώματα της ψυχής – τη παιδικότητα, το ενστικτώδες και το ασυνείδητο. Κάθε πινελιά, κάθε καμπύλη και κάθε απόχρωση λειτουργούν ως εκφάνσεις μιας βαθύτερης συνομιλίας με τη ζωντανή ύλη, προσπαθώντας να συλλάβουν το αόρατο και το ανεξερεύνητο.

Με οδηγό την φαντασία, η καλλιτέχνης μας καλεί να συνυπάρξουμε σε έναν κοινό τόπο, όπου οι φανταστικές μορφές και οι ονειρικές αφηγήσεις γίνονται ένα με την πραγματικότητα.

Σύντομο Βιογραφικό Σημείωμα:

Η Βασιλική Κούκου (γ. 1996) αποφοίτησε από την Ανωτάτη Σχολή Καλών Τεχνών της Αθήνας (BA & Integrated Master, Ζωγραφική). Το 2019 βραβεύτηκε με το Rosa’s Luxemburg Foundation Award, στην Ελλάδα και στο Βερολίνο και το 2020 κέρδισε το δεύτερο βραβείο «Gre-Taste: The taste of Greece» από το Ίδρυμα Εικαστικών Τεχνών και Μουσικής Βασίλη και Μαρίνας Θεοχαράκη. Τα τελευταία χρόνια συνεργάζεται με την γκαλερί Ζουμπουλάκη, όπου πραγματοποίησε και την πρόσφατη ατομική της έκθεση με τίτλο «Where Flowers Are Singing». Το 2017 ήταν performer για την Documenta 14 και το 2020 επιμελήθηκε και ερμήνευσε το «A Metamorphosis performance?» για το project Performance Rooms Kappatos, St. George Lycabettus Hotel. Έργα της έχουν προβληθεί σε μουσεία και ιδρύματα όπως, στο Ίδρυμα Μιχάλη Κακογιάννη, Πολεμικό Μουσείο, Βυζαντινό Μουσείο και άλλα. Έχει συμμετάσχει σε πολυάριθμες ομαδικές εκθέσεις όπως, Paxos Biennale (2024), “Resilient by Nature”, Γκαλερί Ζουμπουλάκη (2023), «Open-Ended», Γκαλερί Ζουμπουλάκη(2022), «Αδράνεια ΙΙ», Ξενοδοχείο Μπάγκειον (2022), «Volcan of Santorini Project», Γκαλερί Ζουμπουλάκη(2021), «Learn To Swim», Γκαλερί Ζουμπουλάκη(2021), «Art on Boards | The Skate Project», Γκαλερί Ζουμπουλάκη (2021), «The Empty Gallery», Shrine Gallery, Νέα Υόρκη (2021), «Counting Approximately 1,5M», a.antonopoulou.art gallery (2020), Μέγαρο Μαξίμου (2019-2020) , «Rooms Contemporary Art Exhibition», Γκαλερί Καππάτος (2019), «Τα Νέα Ρούχα της Ρόζας» Εικαστικός Κύκλος Δ.Λ. (2019) , και άλλες. Στο έργο της χρησιμοποιεί την αφαίρεση και τη σουρεαλιστική αναπαράσταση για να επικαλεστεί την αίσθηση του μυθικού και του μαγικού. Ζει και εργάζεται στην Αθήνα, Ελλάδα.

Η έκθεση θα βρίσκεται στο εσωτερικό μπαλκόνι του Κέντρου «Γαία».

«Leafscapes of the Unseen»

Solo Exhibition

Duration: September 27 – October 6, 2024

From September 27 to October 6, the solo exhibition by Vasiliki Koukou, titled “Leafscapes of the Unseen”, will be presented at the Goulandris Museum of Natural History, curated by Angeliki Bara.

Hosted in the Gaia Exhibition Hall of the Museum, the exhibition will feature an artistic garden filled with secrets, magical symbols, and hybrids.

Through “Leafscapes of the Unseen,” Vasiliki Koukou presents a dialogue between memories, dreams, and her personal reflections on the passage of time and the interaction between humans and nature. She highlights invisible connections between decay and regeneration, using a wide range of techniques and materials.

Koukou' works are characterized by her boundless ability to express imagination, lyrical quality, and inexhaustible dramatic power, which resonate with the rhythms of nature.

The artist reshapes the deeper layers of the soul — childhood, instinct, and the subconscious. Each brushstroke, curve, and shade functions as manifestations of a deeper conversation with living matter, striving to capture the invisible and the unexplored.

Guided by imagination, the artist invites us to coexist in a shared space, where fantastical forms and dreamlike narratives merge with reality.

Short Bio:

Vasiliki Koukou (b. 1996) graduated from the Athens School of Fine Arts (BA & Integrated Master, Painting). In 2019, she received the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation Award, both in Greece and Berlin, and in 2020, she won second prize in the “Gre-Taste: The Taste of Greece” competition by the B & M Theocharakis Foundation for the Fine Arts and Music. In recent years, she has collaborated with Zoumboulakis Gallery, where she held her most recent solo exhibition titled “Where Flowers Are Singing”. In 2017, she performed for Documenta 14, and in 2020, she curated and performed “A Metamorphosis performance?” for the Performance Rooms Kappatos project at the St. George Lycabettus Hotel. Her work has been showcased in museums and institutions such as the Michalis Kakogiannis Foundation, the War Museum, the Byzantine Museum, among others. She has participated in numerous group exhibitions, including the Paxos Biennale (2024), “Resilient by Nature”, Zoumboulakis Gallery (2023), “Open-Ended”, Zoumboulakis Gallery (2022), “Adrania II”, Bageion Hotel (2022), “Volcan of Santorini Project”, Zoumboulakis Gallery (2021), “Learn To Swim”, Zoumboulakis Gallery (2021), “Art on Boards | The Skate Project”, Zoumboulakis Gallery (2021), “The Empty Gallery”, Shrine Gallery, New York (2021), “Counting Approximately 1.5M”, a.antonopoulou.art gallery (2020), Maximos Mansion (2019-2020), “Rooms Contemporary Art Exhibition”, Kappatos Gallery (2019), “The New Clothes of Rosa”, D.L. Visual Circle (2019), and others. In her work, she uses abstraction and surrealist representation to evoke a sense of the mythical and magical. She lives and works in Athens, Greece.

The exhibition will be held on the indoor balcony of the Gaia Centre.
